About Cyprus
The Island
Cyprus, a member of the EU is the 3rd larger island in the Mediterranean Sea. Its location is at the crossroads of three continents thus provides an easy access. More than 40 airlines operate scheduled flights from and to the islands two airports in Larnaka and Pafos. The total population of the island is approximately 770,000 inhabitants.
Main cities:
Nicosia: Is the capital of Cyprus and the biggest city in the island with more than 200,000 inhabitants. It is located in the heart of Cyprus and it is the business center of the island. Nicosia is still divided since the Turkish invasion in 1974, making it the last remaining divided capital in Europe.
Limassol: Is the second biggest town, the island’s main shipping center and a prime resort on the southern coast. The town attracts many Cypriots as well as visitors to its many festivals including the carnival and the annual wine festival. Several world-class resort hotels provide excellent accommodation, dining and leisure facilities and services.
Larnaca: Located in the south-eastern coast is the island’s main airport town. A palm-fringed promenade with innumerable cafes, bars and restaurants is the town’s trademark, running along a seemingly endless sandy beach.
Paphos: The multi-faceted westernmost resort on the island enjoys ever-increasing popularity. Included as a whole in UNESCO’s list of cultural and natural treasures, it is virtually a live museum with traces of history and mythology at every turn. The district of Paphos is also home to the three currently operating golf clubs.
